Hey there!  If you ate too much at your Superbowl party yesterday, you’re not alone!  I must admit that I partook in a bit of white queso dip, guacamole, 7-layer dip and chips, these ridiculously yummy honey-barbeque-dark rum-smoked wings, and a beer to top it all off.  Well, it was all yummy at the time.  Writing it down is another story!

The good news is you won’t gain REAL weight if you immediately get back to eating healthy and regularly exercising.  Right now what you’re seeing on the scale is mostly water weight.  Now, if you keep eating and drinking everyday like you did at the Superbowl party, well, your pants will be super-tight super-quick.

To reduce some belly bloat and to get right back into shape, do my quick 10 MINUTE WORKOUT!  That’s right – 10 minutes and you’ll forget about all those wings you ate!  Here you go:

    JUSTINE’S AWESOME 10 MINUTE WORKOUT:

    30 seconds jumping jacks

    30 seconds squats

    30 seconds walking lunges

    30 seconds pushups

30 seconds side squats (just step side to side and squat)

30 seconds jump rope in place (just pretend you have a jump rope and jump while circling your wrists)

30 seconds tricep dips (Put your hands on the edge of a chair and dip your body up and down – your triceps will burn!)

    30 seconds mountain climbers

    30 second plank

    30 second REST

    REPEAT EVERYTHING ONCE!

That’s 10 minutes of serious calorie burn.  Do this in the morning and go on with your day!  You’ll burn more calories ALL DAY LONG!  :)

Today’s tip of the day….. SWEAT!  Get that body moving and do something that actually makes you SWEAT!  A lot of people don’t sweat when they exercise.  All that means is that you’re not working hard enough.  Some women even think that doing chores around the house counts as exercise.  Burning a few extra calories?  Sure.  Does it count as formal exercise?  NO WAY, JOSE!  So if you want to lose those inches, get moving and SWEAT!  Your waistline will thank you for it later!

Today’s tip is:  Take the time to do something you LOVE

What have you been putting off?  Is it taking a walk outside?  Sitting by the pool?  Calling that friend you haven’t talked to in ages?  Taking the time to do something fun with your kids?  Planning a fun weekend getaway with you and your significant other?

Take a moment and figure out what you’ve been putting off….. and then make plans to do it!  The weekend is almost here.  OR, go crazy and take a half day or full day off from work.  After all, it  IS the summer.  Time to reduce your stress and get to doing something you LOVE!

Summer is here and it is H.O.T!  You know it’s hot when you step outside at 7am and you’re already sweating!  That’s why it’s very important to stay hydrated!  If you experience any muscle cramps or get a Charlie horse, you need POTASSIUM!  And WATER!  Stay hydrated with water.  Get that extra boost of potassium, not from a banana, but from COCONUT WATER!  It’s great!  It’s natural and lightly sweetened water – it doesn’t taste like coconut at all.  The great part is that it has over 600 mg of potassium!  A banana has about 100 mg.  So try it out!  Get some coconut water today!  It’s available in most regular grocery stores and definitely in all the health food stores.  Enjoy!

Quick workout of the day – Requires NO weights!  Just your bodyweight!

    20 pushups (knees or regular)

20 squats (do jump squats to increase the intensity)

    20 jumping jacks

20 bicycles (abs – think Jane Fonda era)

    20 alternating lunges

Hold 30 second plank on elbows

Repeat 2-3 times.  Now go start your day!  You’ll thank me later!

What did you have for breakfast today?  Did you even EAT breakfast?  If so, why not?!  Always eat within 45 minutes of waking.  It doesn’t have to be big – just a few bites of something is fine. Not hungry?  I don’t care!  You’re not hungry because your metabolism has slowed.  You will SPEED IT UP by eating within 45 minutes of waking!  Which means you will burn more calories all day long!  How fabulous!

Breakfast ideas – Plain oatmeal with a little cinnamon or some blueberries on top, a protein bar, a protein shake (2 scoops Jay Robb Egg White protein powder with unsweetened almond milk and lots of ice!), and egg-white omelet with veggies, 2 organic over-easy or scrambled eggs with a piece of whole grain toast (I like Ezekiel bread – found in the health food store), 2 hard-boiled eggs, high fiber cold cereal with unsweetened almond milk (make sure the cereal has at least 9 grams of fiber in it – the more the better!  I’ve found cereals with 14 grams of fiber in them!  Fiber doesn’t count as calories in your body!)

Get the picture?  Now go eat breakfast!

What in the world is Corn Sugar??  Apparently, us consumers got TOO SMART  and realized that high fructose corn syrup is bad for you.  We cut back on buying foods with that particular ingredient in it.  So now, high fructose corn syrup is called “Corn Sugar” and is marketed on commercials and in print ads to appear good for you and just like sugar.  Don’t be fooled!  Do your homework and read those labels!

The weather is getting nicer, the sun is shining, the grass is growing and the birds are chirping….  start this spring by trying a new fitness class!  The hardest part of trying something new is walking through the door.   ZUMBA is very fun and popular!  I personally love kickboxing, body sculpting, and any other kind of class that makes you sweat.  Go ahead – try something new!  I dare you!

Workout with a friend!  It’s much easier to stick to a workout routine when you have someone else to keep you accountable.  Start by going on a walk a few times a week.  You’ll enjoy each other’s company AND get a good workout in!
