Today’s weigh-in was a little…distressing. Up two and a half pounds from last week. I’m not exactly sure what happened. I’ve been eating healthy. I thought I was in line for at least a pound lost.
Oh well. Tomorrow, as Scarlett says, is another day.

Sweet Potato Fries

I am not a food blogger, but these were too pretty – and far too tasty – not to share. The “recipe” goes like this:
Take two large sweet potatoes, peel and julienne (that’s french-fry shaped, for you non-cooking people). Throw them in a zipper bag and add a teaspoon of olive oil, some kosher salt, [...]

Back on the Wagon

April 8, 2010

Well, after a rough couple of weeks, I’m back on the wagon. Today’s weigh-in puts me at 209.5 pounds, down two from last weigh-in, which was actually two weeks ago.
What I really need to concentrate on is getting more exercise. I’ve picked up a review copy of a new workout plan called P.A.C.E., and [...]

Eat Healthy, Eat Cheap

I am sick to death of hearing about how expensive it is to eat healthy. It doesn’t have to cost more to eat right, but you do have to be willing to put more effort into what you eat.

Confessions of a Binge Eater
This is a difficult post to write, and I owe credit to Diana at ScaleJunkie.com for having the courage to admit her own propensity for binge eating, and for giving me the nerve to blog about my own personal issues with food. Her story could very well be mine, from the [...]

March 23, 2010

Simply put, the glycemic index is a way of measuring the effect of food on the blood sugar and insulin levels in your body. High glycemic index scores mean the food causes a rapid rise in blood sugar, followed by an equally rapid release of insulin to combat the sugar level. This is what causes [...]

Diet Meal Delivery Services

March 22, 2010

I’ve always been a little suspicious of those weight loss plans that do all the work for you, like Jenny Craig and MediFast. You know, they tell you what to eat, when to eat it, sell you these “healthy” shakes and stuff that are supposed to make losing weight “easy.” All that sounds great – [...]

Pumpkin Yogurt?

March 17, 2010
Thumbnail image for Pumpkin Yogurt?

I’ve been reading Healthy Tipping Point recently, and one of the foods she raves about is pumpkin yogurt.  Basically, equal parts canned pumpkin (not pie filling) and Greek yogurt, some pumpkin pie spices (cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg) and some kind of sweetener (she uses Agave Nectar). Sounds great, so I thought I’d give it a try.
Now, [...]

Antioxidants and Free Radicals: Antioxidants to the Rescue!

March 16, 2010
Thumbnail image for Antioxidants and Free Radicals: Antioxidants to the Rescue!

In part one “Antioxidants and Free Radicals” we talked about all the terrible things free radicals do to our bodies. Today we’re going learn how antioxidants clean up the messes the radicals make. Kind of like how you clean up after your husband.
Antioxidants are the janitors assigned to free radical detail. They fearlessly throw themselves [...]
